# Tesseral Arithmetic

A grid-based arithmetic that results in extremely efficient computation of many geometric operations because it works directly on the tesseral addresses themselves. Tesseral arithmetic is essentially translation (the translation distance being the number added or subtracted). Thus, adding 1 to any tile means moving a distance equivalent to the distance (and direction) that the tile 1 is from tile 0. Examples of tesseral arithmetic include generalized balanced ternary (GBT) mathematics and PYXIS tesseral arithmetic.
