The PYXIS innovation is a linear indexing technique built on the parent-child relationship in the Square Root Three Subdivision. Cells of a higher resolution that overlap equally between three cells of the coarser resolutions are assigned their parentage from the one cell of the three that is located at the centroid of the cell at the next coarser resolution. This relationship may be generalized in other tessellations of multidimensions.
