A Discrete Global Grid System that uses one of the five platonic solids (cube, tetrahedron, dodecahedron, octahedron, Icosahedron) as the basis for a Discrete Global Grid System. It addresses some of the weaknesses of latitude/longitude measurement by using a polyhedron to approximate the Earth's sphere, and then performing subdivisions on the polyhedron's faces to obtain a multi-resolutional discrete grid. One popular approach is the Icosahedral Snyder Equal Area Aperture 3 Hexagonal Grid (ISEA3H).
